Im Back!

Well my life certainly took another turn this past couple of months, and instead of working on my outer self, I have been working on the inner part of me.
This training stuff gets in the way of real life or vice versa,
But without going into details, I have a long road ahead, both mentally spiritually and physically.
My Friend Ron who has been giving me my schedules, still thinks the Ironman is doable. I'm not sure but for now, I am going to keep working towards it. I don't want to back out just yet. My month of April and May were pretty poor. I did workout but each month had a lot of downtime since my energy was going other places, much more important.
This past week or two I have been regaining some energy, so this week was good.
I got three swims, three bikes and two runs.
My run today was 8miles, but was a little weak, prob tired after the increase in exercise. And last night did a 45 min swim and 90 min on the trainer.
Tomorrow a 3 hour bike. I am feeling stronger so am going to keep it up and if life deals me more challenges I will deal with them one day at a time. I do have God on my side, what more could you ask for ? ;-)

Luck of the Irish to ya!

Happy St. Patty's day to all, if you haven't already guessed I am about 80% Irish and proud of it.
So for St. Patricks day we are going to do a ride to Tempe to Rula Bulas and enjoy some Irish Festivities if anyone wants to join Laureen and I you are more than welcome!

Also just wanted to make a comment on the VO2 testing one of the main goals of this is to determine your heart rate zones, and where your heart rate should be, during training, so that you do not burn out to early, and helps you to train for the distance so important in endurance training, I am looking forward to begin training in my heart zones!

Happy St.Patricks Week!

VO2 testing and 36 weeks out!!

Wow!! It is time to get serious! Only 36 weeks or eight months out from Ironman AZ.
So, I met with someone who is going to help me be more specific with my training and give me some purpose here, not like I didn't have that already but I want to finish this event feeling well and enjoy it I hope, if that is possible.
So, he will start giving me my weekly or daily training this week, also I had a metabolic testing a year and half ago on the treadmill my VO2 max (which has been defined as "the highest rate of oxygen consumption attainable during maximal or exhaustive exercise") was in the mid fifties (average for females in their forties is 26-35) and he said that was really good above average, which means I have a lot of endurance, (It is generally considered the best indicator of cardiorespiratory endurance and aerobic fitness)we are now going to do it (Metabolic testing, vo2 max) on the bike which can be very different, and I am sure it will be, since running is my strength and I have never consistently biked even for a year, he said it can take up to 7 years to reach your full potential on the bike, interesting, now I know why it seems so difficult at times.

Well, since my last entry on the 10th, I had a pretty strong week, that day did a 17.5 mile bike and 2mile run off the bike, swam a mile on Wed. Did boot camp (ouch) and cycled 12 miles/hills on Thursday, still sore from boot camp (my quads and hammies). The cycle was at south mountain have not been out there for years and it was beautiful, there is an area that is paved and closed off to cars so a great place to ride after work to avoid rush hour traffic. Friday was a 45min run on treadmill and 25 min swim.
Saturday decided to get some hills in on the run and it was a beautiful day for a hike/run at Pinnacle although pretty crowded, so I did it twice, once round trip is 4miles and ran parts of it, it is almost impossible to run the whole thing because of the hills (someday maybe). It was great though, exhausted that evening so took it easy and am taking Sunday off since I really have not had a day off for eight days and my house is a disaster!! Would rather be training than cleaning obviously ;-)

All Doggies go to Heaven!

Well, quick update, had kind of an down I mean depressed week last week as my dog passed on to doggy heaven, he was my buddy and my sons best friend, we had him almost 12 years not quite he was about 11 1/2 and I really wished we had that extra 6 months with him, I miss him alot. More that I thought possible. He was always there for me no matter what, the unconditional love we only know with animals, our children and God. He will be missed immensely.
Last week I began with my Sunday bike of 30miles into the wind and hills it was tough, then a swim in the afternoon. Then I got talked into going back to boot camp at Lifetime fitness last Monday morning, it isnt hard for me to get talked into that, as I love it, always something differnet but it is 6am in the morning, and it is an all around super workout, including strength training and cardio and you dont really stop during the entire hour.
Tuesday nothing as that is the day my dog passed, Wed, yoga. Thursday a hard spinning class and then 5 mile run, so basically a brick with my buddy Laureen. Friday another rest day and movie. that evening. Saturday approx. 9mile run with a hill in there and trails. Then a friend of mine called me and was doing the indoor tri and LTF so I decided to join her at 4pm for that, a 10min swim as many laps as you can, 30 min spinning as fast as you can and 20 min run again as fast as you can, my legs were tired from the morning so I did OK> It was a lot of fun and that is the main goal.
Then Sunday a great ride pretty good pace for two hours 30miles with the NWLB group, a great way to end the week. Last night was an easy swim 30-40min and today well of course a brick with Mau Mau it will be a beautiful day for it. Keep on training!!!!!

Getting there!

Well now it is Saturday, this past week life kinda got in the way of my workouts and such is life. It did seem to stress me out a little bit or maybe alot of bit ;-) But I quickly remember where my priorities lie and that is with my family first. So, when it comes to my son and my dog both being sick in the same week, I must take care of them first, and my workouts can wait.
So this past week I to the duathlon in which was a pretty intense race, then a mile swim on Monday, Tuesday was just a run as much as I wanted the bike I had other business to take care of. So a 4mile run was awright!
Wednesday hot yoga (stretch and strengthen) this probably hands down was one of the best stress relievers I had all week, I came out feeling like I had just had an all over massage, I actually think it was better than a massage, it goes for about 80minutes a great detoxifier and workout, all the stress and tension felt like it was completely gone.
Thursday, I took off just tired from the whole week, and Friday was an hour swim in a semi-cold pool but definitely feel like I am getting stronger on the swim, I have got to get some headphones, I think music would help tremendously for the swim.
Today met my friends for an 8miler at the canal, absolutely beautiful day, my calves esp, the left really tightened up on me, which has not happened much, so was thinking it could be from the kickboard the night before, or maybe like we were talking Mau Mau it was the banana creme pie and crust, to much sugar not enough potassium LOL. Good run my friends, thanks Christine and Laureen, LGO was the treat to follow. What a great day!

Wow Time Flies!!

Ok so really I think my best bet is just to blog when I have time and the feeling hits me, it has been at least 10 days since I last blogged and mostly I have been training, working and just trying to have fun in life! Seriously we have to have fun, and just because Im training for an Ironman I will not allow this to get to serious and no fun, then it just isnt worth it.

Ya know the whole thing, life is to short, and truly it is, we need to enjoy the simple things, just like today, I think one of the best parts of my training which entailed participating in the Desert Classic Duathlon out past Fountain Hills, first is the whole adventure of it, I am a big adventure person, love to try new things, and secondly just the whole experience of doing something you have never done before, but my favorite was watching the kids come in and the oldest guy out there and 81 year old man, that is inspirational to me, my heart is just touched by that!! And of course the sheer beauty of the desert and watching the sun come up, perfect weather, perfect day, tough course for me though!!
So Im just going to go through my training quickly for the past week or so, here we g0:

Beginning from Feb. 12th a brick workout which was a spinning class geared towards hills and a run on the treadmill for 4miles, not bad, would rather be outside. Friday was off. Saturday the 14th was Skirt Chasers run, it was fun and enjoyed it this is what it is all about, down at Tempe down lake, so good training, 5k,. of course my garman clocked me a bit faster then the chip but they used the gun at the beginning and not your chip so you lost a bit of time if you were in the back of the pack. Sunday long bike with Christine we did a 40 miler, the best part riding through cave creek town and stopping for coffee and food ;-) Then swam a mile that afternoon. I just wish the water was a little warmer in the outdoor pool, I don't like swimming indoors.

Tuesday Brick with Laureen, 20 mile ride and 3.25 mile run felt good oh and swam for 30min so a mini tri. Took Wed. off. Thurs. Spinning for 60 min and run, Friday Mile Swim, Saturday 6 mile run at canal and Sunday brings me to my Duathlon, never had done one it was fun, again the first part was trails, and the first section in sand, OMG I thought I was running at the beach but no ocean in sight, glad it didnt last long, 3.7 miles then a 21 mile bike first 2 miles felt tough my legs were bricky and it was an incline then downhill from there but bumpy road for first 6 miles, the last half was treacherous, uphill most of the way with some rollin hills in between, wow I have some work to do on the bike. Then transition for a 2.5 mile run, pretty tired at this point and they were right when they said save some for the end, there was a straight up incline, I mean a hike up most people walked that section, so glad when it was done, but happy that I did it and had a great experience, thanks Christine, we did it!!!

Mini Tri Tuesday

OK so today I was thinking hmmm....pretty cold outside 44degrees, I was home enjoying the warmth of my house, and thinking yea, a spinning class at they gym and run and swim after sounds good, all in the comfort of my gym. Thought I will get lots done at home and go to the evening class, when I get a call from Mau Mau, begging me to go with her outside cycling, man she is hard core. Im like well if it gets beyond 50degrees I will think about it. It did get to 50 degrees but not much more, I am a sucker for punishment, really I just love anything outside..
So, she talked me into it, I layered up, I mean three layers, I do not like the cold, either do my hands or feet, but I knew i would rather be outside to get the fresh air in which Arizona has to offer, HA!
So we meet at LTF about 315p, and the first think I hear out of LM is oh it is sooo cold, and Im like Mau, do not even say a word ;-)
So we take off go through the Princess and up to Hayden one of my favorite routes, we rode about 70minutes, lots of traffic at this time too, which is not my favorite time of day to go. Wow and the wind so strong working against us, which has to put on an extra 10miles just for working that hard dont ya thing? It was good, we then went for a 35minute run trails around LTF and back for a 30minute swim in the outdoor pool, a little brisk which was good it made me swim faster, good thing, cuz Im not very fast to begin with.
Needless to say a pretty good workout for the day, a nice warm jacuzzi and steam room (my favorite) after made it all worth while!! And we did it such a great feeling!!
